But the Embarcadero suggestion is also a very good one. I actually think you might like staying in this area, since it's vibrant, but not as shopping-oriented as Union Square itself. Then there's the area south of Union Square (and south of Market) where there are hotels, Moscone Center, Yerba Buena Center, MOMA. And the area east of there (but still south of Market) that's really part of the Financial District at this point (more office buildings than anything else). Then there's the area between the Vitale and AT&T Park, also along the Embarcadero. For example, technically, the Hotel Vitale is SoMa (South of Market), but it's on the Embarcadero, so noone really thinks of it as SoMa. Inspired by the concept behind our name BOTA, a vessel to share wine with the people around you. A place to go to share food, savor rustic flavors and enjoy Spanish wine in a casual, yet chic, environment. SoMa is a little more difficult to describe because to the extent SoMa incorporates everything South of Market, it also incorporates parts of lots of other parts of town. Bota is an authentic Spanish style tapas and paella bar located in the heart of Union Square in San Francisco. Your description of Union Square is quite accurate - it's still a very nice area, though, and loads of adult tourists choose to stay there.
